ARUtility is an augmented reality-based utility locating tool designed to provide users with a clear visualization of underground and overhead utility lines. Its primary objective is to enhance safety, improve worksite efficiency, and facilitate more effective asset management for utility providers.

By maintaining continuous visual awareness of utility locations, ARUtility helps ensure a safer work environment for engineers, contractors, inspectors, and other personnel. In scenarios where physical markings are compromised or removed during construction activities, the platform offers a reliable alternative by visually overlaying utility positions directly onto the real-world environment using augmented reality technology.

Utility companies can leverage ARUtility to optimize asset management processes. Users have the capability to update geographic information system (GIS) data in real-time. When discrepancies are identified between GIS records and actual underground assets, users can select the asset within the augmented reality interface and modify its location details simply by pointing their device at the real-world asset, thereby ensuring GIS data remains accurate and current.

The solution also streamlines the addition of new assets to GIS databases. Instead of manual hand sketches for as-built documentation, operators can directly record new assets in augmented reality by pointing their device at the physical location. This process can be performed safely from the sidewalk without requiring on-site physical drawings.

Furthermore, ARUtility facilitates remote assistance and enhances communication between field personnel and office staff. Office teams can remotely observe live screens, including the augmented reality overlays, and utilize integrated voice and video communication tools. Features such as shared annotations and in-situ drawings enable collaborative problem-solving and precise instructions, promoting efficiency and safety across operations.
